Lenten Quiet Morning

Wednesday, March 11th

Please mark your calendars now to attend our annual Lenten Quiet Morning, on Wednesday, March 11th.  All are invited and encouraged to attend as we continue our Lenten journey and prepare for Holy Week and Easter.

The Rev. Dr. Amy Peeler will lead our Quiet Morning entitled "Tempted and Victorious: Christ, our High Priest".

Christians are familiar with the New Testament affirmation that Christ is our High Priest, but Hebrews’ unique reflections on this theme invite contemplation with honesty and gratitude. Join us for a series of relections on the depth of Christ’s humanity and the heights of his sovereignty as we cultivate an encounter with the merciful and faithful High Priest through the study of God’s Word.

Our morning begins at 8:30 a.m. with fellowship gathering in the Parish Hall where the members of the Daughters of the King Chapter here at Trinity will spoil you with some yummy treats to start your day off properly. The morning concludes with a service of Holy Eucharist at noon.

The Rev. Dr. Amy Peeler is the Kenneth T. Wessner Professor of New Testament at Wheaton College, IL and an Associate Priest at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Geneva, IL. Author of Women and Gender of God (2022), “You Are My Son”: The Family of God in the Epistle to the Hebrews (2014), co-author with Patrick Gray of Hebrews: An Introduction and Study Guide (2020), and most recently a commentary on Hebrews (2024). Wednesday Night Out Speaker Series

Wednesday, March 11th - Please note the special Wednesday Evening Date

For our next Speaker Series event, the Rev. Dr. Amy Peeler will join us in person to give a talk entitled, "Paul and Mary: Foes or Friends?"

The talk will take place after our 5:30 p.m. Celtic Evening Prayer service on the Waterfront and 6:00 p.m. Dinner in the Parish Hall.

It is a common trope that the apostle Paul ignores women at best, and at worst, berates them. That data of the New Testament is much more powerful and positive. Moving beyond well-worn debates about a few choice passages in Paul, this lecture asks a fresh question: Is Paul aware of the mother of Jesus, and if so, does she make a difference to his presentation of God and the church.
