St. Francis of Assisi Pet Blessing
October 8, 10:00 a.m.
Bring your pet for a blessing!
“St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) had an intense love for all creation. He had a special relationship with all the elements of the physical universe. In his poem “Canticle of the Sun” he refers to Brother Sun and Sister Moon, Brother Wind and Sister Water, and he praises all God’s works through the instruments of creation. Legends have been passed down through generations that Francis’s rapport with animals was so great that he preached to the birds and tamed a wild wolf by his words. Thus, he has become the patron of animals and ecology.
In celebration of his feast day, we bring animals to church for blessing as a way of reminding ourselves of the beauty of God’s creation and our role in ensuring its care and proper use. You are invited to remember your life together with your animal(s) you share a special relationship with - bring your animal friends and family to the Trinity-by-the-Cove St. Francis Animal Blessing Saturday, Oct. 8, 10:00am After a short service and individual blessings in the church, treats for your furry friends will be served on the lawn across the street. (If you don’t have a live pet, bring your favorite stuffed toy animal for a blessing. All are welcome!)
Thanks be to God for what our animals mean to us . . . God bless all our beasts!
