Lectors
Lectors participate in the worship services by reading the appointed Old or New Testament lessons. Lectors are assigned to read on a rotation basis among all the services. One training session is held before being assigned to the lector schedule. At some services, the lector leads the Psalm or reads the Prayers of the People.
Acolytes
Following the tradition of the early church, many of our youth serve the clergy and congregation during worship services. Acolytes are included in a variety of functions including the lighting of the candles, the processions in and out of the church, as well as serving at the altar.
This opportunity for ministry is open to youth, ages eight to eighteen, and there are annual training sessions to assist all those who choose to serve in this meaningful way. New members are always welcome.
Chalice Bearers
Serving the chalice during the Holy Eucharist is the role of the chalice bearer. Chalice bearers attend at least one training session and purchase a cassock and surplice that are worn during the service. Chalice bearers rotate among the services and are responsible for finding a substitute if a conflict arises with an assigned date.
Chalice bearers assist the priest in several ways during the service. At some services, the Prayers of the People or Psalm is read. When no acolytes are scheduled, the chalice bearer may serve as the crucifer and acolyte.
St. Mary's Altar Guild
Katy Weidenmiller
Lis Wilson
St. Mary's Altar Guild prepares the altar for all liturgies. The members lovingly care for the linens and silver and insure that the altar is set properly for the liturgies. Each of the four Altar Guild teams is responsible for one week of the month and prepare the altar for any service held during that week. Guild participation is by the invitation of the Rector.
Altar Flowers
Flowers for the altar on Sundays may be given in memory of loved ones, in thanksgiving for someone or something, or in celebration of a special occasion. Reserve a designated Sunday through contacting Polly Butler, 239-262-6581, ext. 201 or pbutler@trinitybythecove.com .
Altar Flower Delivery
Flowers from the altar on Sundays are delivered to Trinitarians for special occasions or when recovering from an illness. The flowers are prepared by the altar guild members after the service. If you and your family would like to be a part of delivering this special gift please contact Alice Fraser.
Ushers
Ushers work in partnership to provide for the needs of parishioners before, during and after each worship service. Training is provided for ushers prior to being assigned to any of the regularly scheduled services. Ushers check the condition of the pews before and after each service, set out the traffic cones and cross walk sign, offer greetings as they hand a service leaflet to the attendees, set out folding chairs to assist with seating, receive the offering, and record attendance following the service.
Greeters
Judy Fratus - Member/Ministry Coordinator
Greeters offer welcome to those who come to church and coffee hour each Sunday morning. Part of the ministry of greeting is to "welcome one another, just as Christ has welcomed you." This is a great way to meet people and get involved at Trinity-by-the-Cove. The ministry is expanding and volunteers are needed for each worship service. If you would like to become a greeter please contact Judy Fratus.
Family Gift Presenters
During the school year, our families take turns bringing forward the gifts of wine and bread to the altar during the 9:00 a.m. liturgy. Assisting in the liturgy in this way helps to emphasize how important the offering of the bread and wine during the communion and enriches the individual family's spiritual journey.
